The show follows staff, volunteers and enthusiasts, working day in, and day out, to make sure the crown jewels of transport history are ready to fly, race and drive another day.

Episode Guide
Discover what's coming up in each episode of the second UKTV series of Secrets of the Transport Museum, narrated by Sanjeev Bhaskar. The 10 part series follows the stories of the Brooklands volunteers and staff as they mend, maintain and restore the most extraordinary historic motors and aeroplanes in the world.

Episode 1
The Halford Special competes against a Bugatti in a re-run of the first ever British Grand prix. The legendary Empire Star motorbike gets an overhaul ahead of being donated to the museum by its owner. And the museum team clean out a flight shed that houses the Avro, Brookland’s earliest plane.

Episode 2
A young racing driver learns how to handle the Napier-Railton. A race winning Harrier jet, and pilot, are reunited. And the museum celebrates a speedy centenary by reuniting two period perfect bikes on a stretch of record-breaking track.

Episode 3
The motorbike team create a new lubrication system to keep a 1930s BSA motorbike running. A Mini Metro and red Corvette turn heads at the Members Classic Car Show. And a 1910 Bristol Boxkite takes to the skies.

Episode 4
A rare Brooklands glider is given a new chance at flight. A 1930s race team is pushed to the max at Goodwood. And a father passes his beloved Brooklands Norton bike down to his son.

Episode 5
Two of the museum’s most famous, and fastest vehicles go head-to-head. An old airfield fire engine needs TLC to be ready for the museum’s Emergency Services event. Two motorbike volunteers visit the home of motoring legend John Surtees.

Episode 6
A father and son team battle to get their vintage buses ready for the Brooklands bus show.  A man with a vision tries to bring his great grandfather’s motorcycle dreams back from the dead at the Brooklands track.  And a McLaren Senna GTR makes a dramatic entrance at the Museum.

Episode 7
Volunteer Mark visits bike building maestro Allen Millyard to choose two models for Brooklands Motorcycle day. Two museum members fulfil their friend John’s automobile dreams. And a WW1 Sopwith Camel biplane goes through its MOT.

Episode 8
Bus obsessed broadcaster and radio DJ Ed Adoo gets the ultimate driving lesson. A rare, cutting-edge bike from the past is saved by modern day engineering magic. And the earliest form of motor racing comes to the Brooklands track.

Episode 9
A Mini makeover reduces its owner to tears. A replica, 1925 cycle car, that’s taken six years to build, comes a cropper at Brooklands. And a workhorse of the skies battles against the elements.

Episode 10
Actor and writer (and show narrator) Sanjeev Bhaskar visits Brooklands to re-live a past supersonic experience on Concorde. A scaled down Bugatti makes waves on the track. And the earliest ever Triumph motorcycle is unveiled.

Tamalie Newbery
CEO and Museum Director until November 2023. Tamalie looks after everyone at the Museum on a daily basis, setting the direction and guiding everyone to fulfil the Museum’s promise – Brooklands at its best, every day for everyone. Episode Highlight: In episode 1 Tamalie organises an emotional welcome for a new donation for the Brooklands Museum collection.

Alex Patterson
Engagement and Heritage Director, now CEO at Brooklands Museum. Alex heads up the team who care for the collections, our stories and how we tell them. He also looks after the learning team who create activities for the schools and colleges programme. Episode Highlight: In episode 1 Alex is getting ready for the 95th Anniversary of the British Grand Prix event, but will the weather improve before the visitors arrive?

Allan Winn
Vice President of the Trust. Allan, former Director of the Museum, retired in 2018 but just couldn’t stay away! Brooklands is his passion and he helps out with demonstrations, events and shares the good word of Brooklands with his extensive community of likeminded petrol-heads. Episode Highlight: In episode 5 Allan's driving skills are put to the test as he races the Napier-Railton against the Brough Scrapper.

Julian Grimwade
Vice Chairman of Brooklands Members. Julian was one of the founder members of the Brooklands Membership in its current form. He devotes his time to racing his beloved collection of cars, events at the Museum and preserving Brooklands’ incredible history for future generations. Episode Highlight: In episode 7, Julian makes a life-long dream come true for a good friend and fellow-volunteer, John.

Andrew Lewis
Collections Manager. Andrew oversees the amazing Brooklands Museum collection, from its vehicles and aircraft to its archive and documents. He makes sure the exhibitions, displays and collection items are looking their best for our visitors. Episode Highlight: In episode 5 Andrew helps get the Napier ready to go head-to head with another of the Museum's fastest vehicles.

Beatrice Meecham
Engagement & Heritage Project Officer. Beatrice works on different projects across the museum. Facilitating, planning and leading on the operational logistics in order to get stuff done across the site. Episode Highlights: In episode 6 Beatrice has her hands full with the launch of the new Driven by Design exhibition, co-ordinating the arrival of three very exciting McLaren cars.

Perry Barwick
Motorcycle Team Volunteer. Perry's energy and enthusiasm for vintage motorcycling are infectious. As well as helping to maintain the Museum's collection, he also has an ever-expanding collection of its own including a faithful recreation of a lost Brooklands legend. Episode Highlight: In Episode 5 Perry gets to visit the home of motoring legend John Surtees and try out the side-car.

Roger Horsfield
Motoring Team Volunteer. Retired mechanical engineer took early retirement from his job 10 years ago to devote his time to his passion of cars and working alongside the motoring team at Brooklands Museum. Episode Highlight: In Episode 8, Roger swaps four wheels for three, as he takes to the track in a trike.

Julian Aubert
Museum Aviation Volunteer. Julian has been involved with Brooklands for over twenty years, he mainly volunteers with our early aviation exhibits including the Sopwith Camel and the three Edwardian aircraft replicas he has built himself – the Santos Demoiselle, ‘Baby’ White and ‘Sports’ White which are resident at the museum. Episode Highlight: In Episode 4

Tom Lecky-Thompson
Retired RAF Pilot. Tom won the Daily Mail Air Race in 1969 after flying his Harrier from London to New York and beyond! The Harrier was designed by Hawker Siddeley and resides at Brooklands Museum today. Episode Highlights: In Episode 2 retired RAF pilot Tom is reunited with his race winning Harrier.

Sarah Crabtree
TV Presenter and Classic Car Enthusiast. Sarah will be recognised by most as a face from TV's 'Bangers and Cash' but is now the proud ambassador of Evoke Classics, a brand new classic car online auction and community website. Episode Highlights: In Episode 3 Sarah joins Julian as a guest judge for 'Best in show' award at the Members' Classic Car Show event.

Ed Adoo
Broadcaster, writer and DJ. Ed Adoo, a man of many talents and currently presenting a Sunday evening show for BBC Three Counties Radio, has a not-so-secret passion for buses, boasting a collection of over 500 miniature models! Episode Highlights: In Episode 8, Ed's love for buses brings him to the London Bus Museum to get the ultimate driving lesson.

Aston Martin Halford Special
Appears in Episode 1. The world’s first turbocharged car, which raced in the first-ever British Grand Prix in 1926. Built by Aero-engine designer Major Frank Halford.

Appears in Episode 1. This classic racing Bugatti was first produced in 1925 and dominated Grand Prix racing in the twenties.

BSA M23 Empire Star 500cc (replica)
Appears in Episode 1. The motorcycle was built as an exact replica of the M23 ridden at Brooklands by Wal Handley on 30 June 1937, lapping at an average of 102mph earning him the coveted Brooklands Gold Star.

Roe I Biplane (replica)
Appears in Episode 1. This full size replica (BAPC 187) was built to flyable standards in 1986-88 by a team of volunteers. It is a replica of A V Roe's 1907 Roe Biplane which attempted the first flight from the Brooklands track.

Hawker Harrier GR.1
Appears in Episode 2. The Harrier was the first successful V/STOL (Vertical/Short Take-Off and Landing) fighter. It won the prize for the fastest crossing from London to New York in the 1969 Daily Mail Transatlantic Air Race by taking off from a disused coal yard near St Pancras Station and landing on a pier on the River Hudson. Squadron Leader Tom Lecky-Thompson made the crossing in 6 hours, 11 minutes and 57 seconds

Appears in Episode 4. This record-breaking motorcycle was specially assembled by the Norton works team for the Brooklands motorcycle Grands Prix.

Airfield Range Rover Fire Tender
Appears in Episode 5. Only six of these vehicles were built for use by Hawker Siddeley Aviation Ltd. This example was built in 1976 to be used at Dunsfold Aerodrome.

Brough Superior Works Scrapper
Appears in Episode 5. This motorcycle, built by Freddie Dixon and the Brough Superior Works, achieved the ‘World’s Fastest’ title in 1929.

Bentley 4 ½ litre 'Le Mans'
Appears in Episode 7. This Bentley was first raced at Brooklands in 1929 by Sir Henry 'Tim' Birkin in the first JCC Double Twelve Hour Race.

Vickers Vanguard 953C
Appears in Episode 9. The Vanguard was a private venture airliner built to a British European Airways (BEA) specification for high-density medium range routes. Powered by new Rolls-Royce Tyne turboprop engines, the prototype was first flown by Jock Bryce and Brian Trubshaw from Brooklands in 1959.

BOAC Bedford CA Crew Bus
Appears in Episode 10. This Bedford CA van was used in many guises by both BEA and BOAC and was donated to the museum by British Airways Clubs in August 2006.

Appears in Episode 10. One of the most iconic aircraft ever built, Concorde G-BBDG or 'Delta Golf' was the first British production Concorde.

Bugatti Baby 'II'
Appears in Episode 10. In celebration of Bugatti’s 110th anniversary, The Little Car Company and Bugatti developed the Bugatti Baby II, a modern tribute to Ettore Bugatti's masterpiece the Bugatti Baby, a gift to his youngest son Roland.
