BAC Concorde: Fuselage & Wing Sections
BAC CONCORDE PORT INNER WING SECTION
Designed and manufactured in the 1960s by the British Aircraft Corporation at Brooklands, Weybridge, this Concorde trailing edge wing section has an approximate surface area of 25 sq.ft. and carried an estimated 2,500 lbs weight. The development of aviation technology over 50 years is illustrated by the complexity and size of the Concorde elevon hinge bracket. The main elements of this all-metal structure are examples of 'skin-milling' production methods pioneered at Brooklands with very strong panels machined from much larger solid metal billets.
LOWER REAR FUSELAGE SKIN PANEL (1970s)
This component, built by British Aircraft Corporation staff at Brooklands, was produced by machine-milling from a larger solid metal billet. This was a specialist process pioneered at the Weybridge factory. Its position in the airframe was immediately behind the wing trailing edge and the largest hole gave ground crews access to an hydraulic tank inside the fuselage.
