Exhibition about Sir Barnes Wallis and his astounding inventions, which included the bouncing bomb used in The Dambusters raid in 1943 in WWII. Sir Barnes lived in and is buried in Effingham close to the Tithe Barn where the exhibition is being held.

Exhibition about Sir Barnes Wallis, best known as the inventor of the bouncing bomb used in The Dambusters raid in 1943 in WWII, but also the inventor of other astounding inventions, some of which were way ahead of their time. Sir Barnes lived close by in the neighbouring village of Effingham and is buried at St Lawrence Church, a short walk away. Back by popular demand, the Effingham Residents Association in association with Brooklands Museum is pleased once again to present the exhibition held in 2019 to mark 40 years after his death, with Brooklands Museum this time presenting Sir Barnes’ astounding inventions. Short films and documentaries and a recorded interview about him with his daughter, Elisabeth will also be shown. The exhibition is supported by the Barnes Wallis Foundation and members of the family of Sir Barnes.

The exhibition is being held in the impressive 15th Century Grade II listed Tithe Barn, formerly associated with All Saints Church (also open). The Barn is one of the largest in Surrey at 4,500 sq ft. Refreshments can be enjoyed in the barn or in the terraced courtyard garden which has been recreated from photographs taken in the 1920s. Families with children are very welcome. Limited parking available on site with further parking at the neighbouring Manor House School (also open Saturday 10 September only).
