WRAeS Talk: The Venus Rover

  • 8th Oct 2025
  • 6.45pm
  • Evening talk in The Clubhouse at Brooklands Museum
  • Entry donation £5 per person. Card payment at the door.

Venus has the hottest surface in the solar system, meaning conventional electronics cannot function for prolonged periods. This Group Design Project, completed in 2023 as part of a Masters Degree in Spacecraft Engineering at the University of Southampton, developed an innovative solution to exploring Earth's sister planet. Building on research discussed first-hand with a lead researcher at NASA JPL, a proof-of-concept was built for an entirely mechanical wind powered rover. The work focused on how the rover moves across rocky terrain and avoids obstacles without using any electronics.
