WRAeS Talk: Glider G-IZII Accident - What Happened?

On 22 Aug 2010 a Marganski Swift S-1 glider, G-IZII, was displaying at the Shoreham Air Show and was turning to land when it stalled and crashed on to the runway. Mike Newman describes this accident from the pilot perspective, lifting the lid on what really lies behind a very obvious example of pilot error and provide insight of why the accident occurred.
Speaker Bio:
Mike Newman flew competition glider aerobatics between 2003 and 2010, becoming a multiple UK Champion at Intermediate and Unlimited levels and achieving the highest International placing for a UK pilot at glider Unlimited level in 2010. Since recovering from the accident, Mike gained a BSc, MSc and PhD in Human Factors and now works for a large UK Defence contractor supporting aviation programs.

All are welcome (RAeS membership is not required). There is an entry donation of £5.00 (please use card payment) at the door. This donation is not expected from those under the age of 21 or holders of a current Student Union card.
Certificates of Attendance for C.Eng or CPD purposes are available on request.
Entry is via Campbell Gate only, Brooklands Road, KT13 0QN from 5.30pm.
