Tuesday 17th May 2022 marks 100 years to the day when Kenelm Lee Guinness, driving the 350 hp Sunbeam, broke the World Land Speed Record on the Brooklands Circuit. Join us for a morning talk delivered by representatives from the National Transport Trust and the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu to discover more about the history, the design, and the restoration of the 350hp Sunbeam.
Oliver Heal, the author of Louis Coatalen: Engineering Impressario of Humber, Sunbeam, Talbot, Darracq, will delve into the history of the Sunbeam Motor Company, the historical context of Kenelm Lee Guinness’ World Land Speed Record and the team involved with making this extra special car.
Andrea Bishop, Director of Collections & Engagement from The National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, will discuss the story of the car, what it achieved and how it has changed over time in the wider context of the National Motor Museum's collection.
Finally, Doug Hill, Chief Engineer from the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu will discuss the modern-day restoration of the 350hp Sunbeam, how the team at Beaulieu worked to bring it back to life!
This event will be in person in the Vickers Suite. Tea & Coffee will be provided.
