Key Stage 3

Brooklands Museum supports learning outside the classroom through a range of workshops, tours, activity days and resources that will inspire and engage pupils of all ages.

General Admission price per pupil is £4. One adult FREE per ten pupils.

Prices for individual workshops quoted below are in addition to the General Admission price.

Self-Guided Visit

Museum Researcher

Research our collections whilst using one of our activity resources specially developed to engage students in real life applications of the learning Curriculum.

Availability: weekdays

Cost: Included in General Admission price (see top of page).

KS3: Science, D & T, History, English, Business Studies, Leisure & Tourism

Then and Now: Life in an Aircraft Factory

Don your factory uniform and meet the foreman for your instructions for the day. Discover the different skills required to build planes throughout the ages with our exciting interactive exhibits.

Availability: weekdays

Session times: every half hour from 10.30am - 2pm

Cost: Included in General Admission price (see top of page). 30 children per session.

Duration: 45 minutes

KS3: Science, Engineering and D & T.

Workshops and Tours

It’s an Ingenious World

A guided tour visit that will develop your pupils’ knowledge of engineering through case studies of objects within the Museum collection.

Availability: Monday and Wednesday

Session times: 10:30, 11:15 and 13:30

Cost: £1 per pupil (in addition to General Admission price, see top of page). 30 children per session

Duration: 30 minutes

KS3: History, Science, ICT, English, Art & Design, D&T

The Art of Machines

Students will observe and handle museum artefacts and will do quick sketches, before designing their own mechanical beast.

Availability: weekdays

Session Times: 10:30, 11:15 & 13:30

Cost: £2 per pupil (in addition to General Admission price, see top of page). 30 children per session

Duration: 30mins

KS3: Science, ICT, English, Art & Design and D & T

Snapshots of History

This workshop will engage pupils with the history of Brooklands and give them an opportunity to interpret it on a personal and artistic level, using iPads to shoot and edit their own films.

Availability: Monday, Wednesday and Friday

Session times: 10:00-14:30

Duration: 4 hours

Engineering Taster Days

Providing pupils with a better understanding of the principles of aerodynamics, this taster day has been planned to be stimulating, fun and accessible for students of mixed abilities.

Availability: weekdays

Session times: 10:00-14:30

Cost: £2 per pupil (in addition to the General Admission price, see top of page). 30 children per session.

Duration: 4 hours

Concorde Experience

See inside the World's most famous aircraft. Re-live the excitement of the supersonic age and learn about the challenges of flying at Mach 2.

Availability: weekdays

Session times: every half hour from 10:25 to 14:25

Duration: 30 minutes long

Cost: £3.00 per pupil and £5.00 per adult (in addition to the General Admission, see top of page) 15 students per session

4D Theatre Simulator Rides

Our simulator rides will provide students and teachers with the closest experience any living person will have of “racing” around the Brooklands Race Track, “flying” with the Red Arrows or "Driving" with Mike Hawthorne around Le Mans.

Availability: weekdays

Session times: every 15 minutes

Duration: 15 minutes long

Cost: £2.00 per pupil and £4.00 per adult (in addition to the General Admission, see top of page) 14 children per session

How to Book

  • Choose the activity you would like and possible dates for your visit and call the Learning office to check availability.
  • The Learning Office can be contacted by calling 01932 857381 or by emailing [email protected]
  • Please call as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Before You Visit

  • On booking a visit you will receive a visit information pack. Please read it carefully and distribute the relevant information to the other adults involved with the trip.
  • Return the booking form
  • You are welcome to come and see the Museum prior to your booked visit to familiarise yourself with our site (available for group leaders and one additional person)
  • A timetable of the day will be sent shortly before your visit. When you receive this please brief all group leaders about the day
  • Please get in touch if any requirements or aspects of your original booking change

Payment

We accept cash, cheques or cards, either in advance or on the day. We ask that groups provide a single payment for their booking.

Cancellation

Please note that a cancellation fee of £30 will be charged if the Museum is not informed if a group visit is not going ahead at least 7 days before the reserved date.

Work Experience

Brooklands Museum has a limited number of work experience places available each year. Why not try out a career within the museum sector at this interesting and historic venue? Places are extremely limited so apply early to avoid disappointment.
