The Raleigh Cycle Company was still producing ‘high-wheel’ or ‘Ordinary’ bicycles similar to this 50 inch wheel Singer model as late at the 1890s. However, the success of the new ‘safety’ bicycles introduced in the mid 1880s eventually resulted in the ridicule and disappearance of these once popular bicycles, later nicknamed ‘Penny-Farthings’.

This Singer model features rubber-mounted handlebars and saddle spring.
