This was Raleigh’s most expensive cycle, it also had the longest production run. The ‘X’ frame was one of cycling’s many and varied fads and fashions. It was copied by many cycle makers and was said to make a stiffer stronger frame. The brake control cables run through the handlebars and give a clean appearance in this area. Aluminium wheel rims are fitted to this single speed cycle. An unusual feature is that the chain adjustment is made by turning the eccentric bottom bracket; a step is fitted to the rear axle to make a dignified mounting easier. The paint finish is not original and would probably have looked like the lady’s ‘Modele Superbe’.
