Raleigh’s children’s tricycles changed little in design between the 1920s and 1960s. This example probably dates from the 1940s. By the mid 1950s they were being produced as the ‘Winkie’ and came in red and white or blue and white. A metal ‘boot’ was an optional extra. Winkie owners could become members of the ‘Circle of Silver Knights’, an idea that encouraged the practice of road safety.
