Volunteer Stories - Matthew Bisson

30 May 2020

We are back with another of our Volunteer Stories. This time we have Brooklands Museum Youth Panel member Matthew Bison.

'I started volunteering at Brooklands approximately 2 years ago and am one of the museum's longest-running Youth Panel members.  I joined the Youth Panel because I am passionate about aviation and wanted to see young people getting the most out of this amazing museum!

Brooklands has given me a wide range of wonderful opportunities which I have really valued. I had a great time helping at the Summer Fete last year. I love to interact with the public and especially enjoyed doing the sensory storytelling for young children with SEN needs on a real London bus, as well as puppet making and classic lawn games. I have also spent school holidays assisting with various workshops, for example introducing the concept of building cars out of recyclable materials and racing them in the classic Malcolm Campbell Shed.

I have been privileged to be a representative of Brooklands Youth at a Parliamentary Reception for aviation hosted by Baroness Garden of Frognal and sponsored by Boeing. Other trips away from the museum have included a visit to Kidzania in central London to help with a practical science workshop on the subject of Forces.

Concorde is my favourite museum exhibit. I have been a big fan of this amazing piece of engineering and a regular visitor to it ever since I can remember. These are just a few reasons why I strongly recommend the Brooklands Youth Panel to any person aged between 13-18 - as joining is a decision you will never regret!'
