This is a BTM Coach Trip

LAST FEW PLACES REMAINING

Spend a day in Southampton - on land and sea - exploring the maritime city's connections with the iconic Spitfire.

SOLENT SKY MUSEUM

Our coach will take us from Brooklands to Southampton for a morning's guided tour of the Solent Sky Museum where you can learn about the Spitfire's designer R J Mitchell and the history of the world’s greatest fighting aircraft.

Woolston

A guided walk will then take us through Woolston on the opposite bank of the River Itchen, once home to the Supermarine Spitfire Factory, and a primary target for the bombing raids of the Second World War.

SS Shieldhall

Around 2:30 we will board the SS Shieldhall for a buffet lunch and a 3 hour cruise down Southampton Water towards Calshot, home to the Schneider Air Trophy Races of the 1920s. A licensed bar and light snacks are also available. The SS Shieldhall, owned and operated entirely by Volunteers, is the country's oldest working example of steamship machinery both above and below deck, typical of the cargo and passenger ships that plied the oceans of the world from the 1870s until the mid 1960s. Now believed to be the largest working steam ship in Northern Europe, she is owned and operated entirely by voluntary effort. (More information www.ss-shieldhall.co.uk). You will be welcome to visit the Engine Room and Boiler Room and also meet the Captain on the Bridge! During the cruise you will be able to see four departing cruise ships - Azura, Britannia, Independence of the Seas and Sapphire Princess.
