Project 240 - The Vickers Story - Clouds of War

  • Sorry this event has been cancelled

30th July 2020

We are sorry but due to the Coronavirus situation, this event has been cancelled. It will be rescheduled at a later date.

Harry Sherrard returns to take us through the interwar years and into WW2 for the second part of "Project 240".

We'll be looking not just at the aircraft made at Brooklands but also the surrounding community as the aircraft factory found its feet and grew to its culmination as the principal occupier of the site in WW2. We will look at the war including the bombing raid on the factory in 1940 and subsequent measures to disguise the factory.

Part 3 coming in the Autumn will look at the rise of civilian aircraft production, the connection to Wisley airfield and the creation of the British Aircraft Corporation through to the final closure in the late 1980s

Next year we will be bringing the final parts of the story which will be looking at personal stories from apprentices and local people, surrounding support industries and the impact Vickers/ BAC had on the local communty.
