Goodwood to Cape Town and back in a microlight

September 4, 2024

In the spirit of Brooklands' aviation pioneers, Richard Bird flew a C 42 microlight aircraft from Goodwood to Cape Town and back. The expedition took 77 days of which 39 were spent flying. The aircraft took off and landed 62 times and was flown down the eastern side of the African continent, visiting 12 countries in all. Highlights included overflying the Ethiopian Highlands and the Victoria Falls, a near-arrest in Namibia and, given their arrival in Cape Town on 1 April, convincing local media that it wasn't an April Fool. We look forward to welcoming Richard to Brooklands to tell us more about his incredible adventures.

The Members' Bar will be open from 6pm and hot food will be available.
