Absurd: A Saharan Adventure
May 19, 2022
Back in 2017, Keith Futcher, a 70-year-old living in Malaysia saw an image in a glossy magazine that sent his heart racing. Determined to recreate the photograph, Keith persuaded two other seniors, quickly growing to four, that a journey on heritage motorcycles across the Sahara was a wonderfully absurd notion.
Hooking up with an ex-Special Forces operative and a combat zone photographer made them seven. Wild camping under star-spattered skies from Spain to Tangier, then riding across unforgiving terrain, fourteen dusty boots eventually touched down on the sands of the Sahara at Erg Chebbi, their final destination.
Keith and three of his original cohort are preparing to ride their motorcycles from York to Brooklands Museum, arriving on 19th May, where he will talk about their adventures, and sign copies of his book Absurd.
This event will be in person in the Clubhouse and broadcast on BM.tv Livestream
The Members' Bar will be open from 6pm and hot food will be available.
Should any riders wish to join Keith on the journey to Brooklands Museum, the Short Ride Down, route and dates are available on the GB Publishing website.
