Members' Talks and Trips update

04 August 2020

Dear Members,

As COVID is still with us and its impact infringes all activities we are giving you an update of the remaining events for 2020 and the current probability of them going ahead.

Brookands Members Talks Update

For the avoidance of any doubt or confusion, the 2020 programme of Members Talks has been cancelled. Please ignore any reference to published dates that may have appeared in earlier publications or on-line.

As and when public gathering restricted are relaxed we may be in a
position the re-start the programme, but on a limited basis. You will be
informed of any changes via the monthly newsletter, social media platforms and the Brooklands Bulletin.

However, I do have some exciting news for you. We have over the past
recent weeks carried out some ‘Live Streaming’ of a number of Talks and
interviews using Zoom Webinar technology with great success and we
hope to be in a position to Live Stream via youtube shortly.

I know that this form of technology is not to everyone’s taste, but during
these challenging times its does provide us with the platform to keep the Talks
alive and as we come out of these restrictions with the likelihood of small
audiences we will be able to stream to 100’s not just 20 people in a room!

Driving & Visit Group update

September 29th Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb

Shelsley is open and running competitive events, so it's most probably that we will be able to go ahead as it's just us and no public. I will be in contact with Members who have reserved a place to confirm arrangements, and to collect payment from those who have yet to pay. There are still a few places available if interested, any age car or motorbike as long as its road legal, please contact me on the email given below. If it was to be cancelled, due to COVID or any reason beyond our control, your entry fee would be reimbursed.

October 16th - 19th Llanderchindda farm visit

As at the time of writing, Llanderchindda Farm is open and fully booked. They have had very few cancelled bookings and have been able to fill any cancelled spaces. I will be in contact with Members who have booked, probably in September, to see if they still want to join this visit.

21st October Castle Combe Track Day

Like Shelsley Walsh this is expected to go ahead. There are places available so if you are interested please email me, at the address below, for more details.

26th & 28th October Sewerage Cathedral Coach visit

Update 16th October: We are sorry to announce that due to the changes in government guides the visit to the Sewerage Cathedral has been cancelled for all 3 dates. The visit will be arranged sometime in the future and members who had previously booked will be given priority booking.

NEW 15th December - 'Wartime Kent' Coach visit.

This is a winter visit to Chartwell, the family home of Winston Churchill. There will be a guided tour seeing selected rooms dressed for Christmas across the decades. Later in the day, we travel to Biggin Hill Memorial Museum and St Georges RAF Chapel of Remembrance, to explore the personal experiences of those who served there. A talk will be given exploring Churchill and the defence of the realm. At this time the arrangements are, to put it mildly, vague, but if you are interested can you send me an email, stating how many places you would like, (no payment required) then as life becomes more defined, I will confirm arrangements and let you make a final decision whether you want to join the group.

Annual Dinner and Christmas Lunch

Both have been reluctantly cancelled until 2021!
