Concorde Delta Golf Celebrations
20 February 2024
On 13th February Delta Golf celebrated its 50th Anniversary of its first flight. The day was part of a very busy half term week and these events on the day were supported by the learning team who ran Concorde based activities all week.
We were honoured to be joined on this day by our Royal Patron, HRH Prince Michael of Kent, who has a close association with Delta Golf as he accepted the keys from British Airways on behalf of the Museum.
The day commenced with the unveiling of a new original painting by renowned aviation artist Simon W Atack AGAVA, titled ‘Speedbird Delta Golf over Brooklands’. The painting will soon hang proudly in the Members bar while a limited run of prints signed by the artist alongside Concorde Pilots and Engineers – are available to purchase from the Brooklands Museum shop. It is the first time the museum has commissioned a limited edition print to help support the future of its collections.
In a wonderful spectacle, guests took part in a celebratory cake cutting ceremony below Delta Golf before a member of the public won the opportunity to lower the nose. This was accompanied by music from the British Airways Brass Band. After the ceremony the public were invited to place model Concordes beneath Delta Golf , likely setting a new world record for most model Concordes under a Concorde, we reached 84 model Concordes and will keep you posted with updates.
The day concluded with a well-attended panel discussion in the Napier room, discussing Delta Golf’s remarkable journey from rigorous test flights to its final arrival in Brooklands and more importantly what it was like to fly her.
Highlights for from the day are available to view on BMTV’s you tube channel.
