The Perfect Weekend for Motorsport-Mad Dads

07 June 2019

The Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival
15 & 16 June 2019

What is the Brooklands Double Twelve Festival? Well, it is a weekend of fantastic motoring action and entertainment that takes place every June at Brooklands celebrating all that made the world famous track in Weybridge a household name. This year it is on 15th and 16th June and is the perfect opportunity to experience the glamour and vintage atmosphere as some of the rarest and most outrageous racing cars compete in competitions across both days for the coveted Double Twelve Trophy. There are Driving Tests which sees cars having to negotiate all kinds of courses set up on the historic site while over at the twisty circuit at neighbouring Mercedes-Benz World, drivers will compete for the fastest times in the Speed Trials. Then there is the ‘Concours d’Elégance’ which is a pageant of cars judged for their authenticity, restoration and rarity and finally, the crowd-pleasing Test Hill ascents. This is the original hill built in 1909 to test acceleration and breaking and will see every conceivable two, three or four-wheeled vehicle try and make it to the top without stalling.

In addition to the competitive events, there will be live music, great food and activities and of course all of the Museum exhibition areas will be open for visitors to enjoy. This year, the new First to the Fastest exhibition can be seen which celebrates the incredible journey of Alcock and Brown’s 1919 non-stop transatlantic crossing to the 1969 Great Air Race. For the little ones, TrackStars will be running kids’ karting for children from 4 years upwards and for kids of all ages (!) why not try one of the Racing Simulators laid on especially for the weekend. Extra catering and other facilities on site means you’re never far away from a refuel and of course, Surrey’s very own Concorde and the amazing 4D Theatre will be running rides and experiences all day.

Many Car Clubs will be coming along to showcase their vehicles ranging from British classics through to French, Italian and German marques. The weekend culminates with a prize-giving ceremony in the main Paddock and for spectators, a day ticket gives access to all areas on both sites, Paddock and grandstand views along with the Museums exhibits, collections and facilities.
