QUEEN at Brooklands Museum!

18 April 2016

Thanks to everyone who voted! We have sadly got knocked out in the Quarter Final of the competition! We hope you all enjoyed our entry, if you haven't watched it yet, make sure you play the video in the right hand column.

Brooklands Museum Staff have donned their dancing shoes, turned up the music and filmed some show-stopping moves around the Museum site to Queen’s hit Don’t Stop Me Now, which also features in the Museum’s Concorde Experience.

The video, featuring Staff, Volunteers and the Museum’s own mascot, Bertie Bear, has been entered into the annual international Museum Dance Off Competition. The competition is now in its third year and sees 36 Museums from around the world compete in three rounds to be crowned winner of Museum Dance Off 3: Tokyo Drift.

Brooklands Museum are hoping their fans will come out in force to support the Museum’s entry to the competition. The winner of this worldwide competition is decided by public vote but voting is limited to a 24-hour time slot of between 1pm on Monday 25th April until the same time on Tuesday 24th. Votes can be cast atwww.whenyouworkatamuseum.com, where all the entries can be seen, or just search for ‘Brooklands Museum Dance’ on YouTube to see what a fantastic routine has been created.

Very few Museums can boast such a range of exhibits with Concorde, giant racing cars and the awe-inspiring Stratosphere Chamber all making an appearance during the video.

Museum Director Allan Winn says “We’ve never subscribed to the traditional concept of museums being about lots of dead things in sheds. We encourage our visitors to get involved with our exhibits and take part in our many activities, so it’s only natural that our staff and volunteers would want to get involved in the Dance-Off. It’s our way of reminding the world that Brooklands is where it happened throughout the 20th Century – and where it’s still happening today!”

A tough first round of the competition awaits the Museum staff, as they face off fellow UK entry Tunbridge Wells Museum And Art Gallery, Minneapolis Institute of Art and History Colorado.
