Napier Railton Hong Kong Report

19 October 2015

After a little over two weeks away, the Napier-Railton has returned to Brooklands following its visit to Hong Kong as a guest of the Hong Kong Classic Car Show and the Peninsula Hotel. From its first appearance at the VIP Opening on Friday night, driving through the site and onto its podium accompanied by a smoke machine and light show, the Napier-Railton was undoubtedly the star of the show.

Some visitors already knew about the car but for many it was a revelation and the enthusiasm amongst the substantial crowd was tangible. Stories of John Cobb, his record-breaking achievements and the history of Brooklands were told to an entranced audience, which included a distant cousin of Reid Railton, late into the night and over the weekend.

A slightly more sedate, but no less fascinating, two days were then spent as the car was displayed at the front of the world famous Peninsula Hotel Hong Kong, where guests and passers-by were captivated by the Napier-Railton’s appearance. Although missed by all in Weybridge while it was away, the trip was a wonderful opportunity to bring Brooklands to life to an audience who might otherwise never see anything of the Museum or its unique collection.
