Come Along to the Summer Holiday Fête at Brooklands Museum this August
24 June 2019
Visitors coming to Brooklands Museum on weekdays* throughout August will find all the fun and games of a traditional village fête waiting for them.
The focal point will be a lawned area set in front of the iconic Clubhouse with a variety of vintage-inspired games for all ages. Some of the free activities link back to the golden era of the 1920s and ‘30s while others have a familiar modern twist. They include:
- Hopscotch
- Hoop and stick
- Swing ball
- Giant Connect 4
- Giant rope noughts and crosses
- Inflatable skittles, draughts etc.
- Coconut shy
- Quoits
Giant deck chairs will provide the perfect ‘selfie’ opportunity as will all the winners podium. This will be for anyone competing in some of the traditional ‘sports day’ events and races like the sack race and egg and spoon race which will run on selected days. Ice cream, lemonade, tea, cakes and other summer treats will be on sale too and of course, the legendary Brooklands Car Rides* will take passengers up the hill climb and along the famous Race Track for a thrilling drive. However, for a more leisurely ride, you could always hop on board a red double-decker bus for a trip* courtesy of London Bus Museum
All of the Museum’s motoring and aviation exhibitions will be open for families to explore including the new First to the Fastest exhibition and the Award-Winning Brooklands Aircraft Factory and Flight Shed. Inside these exhibition areas, visitors can ‘clock in’ and don factory work coats as they begin their ‘Brooklands Apprenticeship’. A series of workshops and interactives explore some of the skills used over the 80-year history of aircraft manufacture at Brooklands. Leaving the Factory and entering the Flight Shed, visitors can see a collection of complete aircraft with opportunities to sit in the cockpits of the Hawker Hunter and Harrier and a walk through the inside of a Wellington Bomber.
The Concorde Experience is a half-hour virtual supersonic ‘flight’ on the Brooklands Concorde and runs every day, but on weekdays, special Kids Tours will be running twice a day too. And opposite this supersonic aircraft is the 4D Theatre running three simulator racing and flying rides each day.
