Brooklands Museum takes to the dance floor!

12 April 2018

We have won our round of the competition and are through to the international Museum Dance Off Thunderdome final. Please spread the word and come back and vote for us on the 14th May

Brooklands Museum staff have grabbed their flares and headbands, laid out the disco dance floor and got the glitter ball spinning, to the tune of Curtis Mayfield’s ‘Move on Up’ for the annual international Museum Dance Off Competition.

The competition is now in its fifth year and sees 48 Museums from around the world compete to be crowned winner of Museum Dance Off 5: The Last Dance. After failing to make it out of the semi-final with last year’s entry, Museum Staff, Volunteers and mascot, Bertie Bear, are hoping that this year’s video will help them move on up to the International Thunderdome Final.

Brooklands Museum’s 2018 entry follows 4 judges as they attempt to find a new Director through a dance competition. Museum mascot Bertie Bear leads an eclectic mix of entrants, all showing off their best moves as well as their favourite items in the collection. Head over to YouTube now to watch Brooklands Museum's Museum Dance Off entry.

The Museum Dance Off Competition takes place in rounds across the next few weeks. The first round is by region and Brooklands Museum will be going up against Dutch entry Van Abbemuseum, Ribe Kunstmuseum in Denmark and fellow UK entries The Old Operating Theatre Museum and Herb Garret and Museum of Liverpool.

The winner of the Dance Off is decided by public vote, but voting is limited to a 24-hour time slot. Votes can be cast at www.whenyouworkatamuseum.com, where all the entries can be seen, or just search for ‘Brooklands Museum Dance Off 2018’ on YouTube to see what a fantastic routine has been created.
