Brooklands Museum assembles for the 2.6 Challenge

30 April 2020

On Sunday 26th April, a small team of Brooklands Museum staff joined fundraisers across the country to take on the 2.6 Challenge. Launched to help save the UK’s charities.

Over 7 hours the small team of essential Museum staff took on the challenge of assembling 26 different types of transport, covering 100 years of history, together in one place on the Museum site. It showed the vast array of vehicles Brooklands Museum cares for and uses around the site. They did it to raise much-needed funds for their #LoveBrooklands campaign to keep the Museum’s collection safe and cared for during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Taking centre stage in the gathering of transport types was Concorde – partly built on the Museum site in the 1960s. In front, the Museum’s record-breaking, 1930s race car, the Napier-Railton. Also in the line-up - the lightweight Demoiselle aircraft replica, the 1940s Merryweather Fire Engine, a Motorcycle and sidecar, the much-photographed gold Raleigh Chopper Bicycle, the Museum’s fleet of operational maintenance vehicles and a child’s Pedal Plane to complete the gathering.

Online the Brooklands Members took on their own 2.6 Challenge, gathering together photos of models to create a 26 in miniature, raising vital funds for the Museum.

The 2.6 Challenge encourages people up and down the country to dream up activities based around the numbers 2.6 and 26 to take part in from Sunday 26th April, the date of what should have been the 40th edition of the Virgin Money London Marathon.

There is still time to sponsor Brooklands Museum's 2.6 Challenge, for every donation to our 2.6 Challenge fundraiser we will get an extra donation from the campaign organisers central funding pot.
