Volunteer

Brooklands Museum is fortunate in having one of the largest volunteer workforces of any museum in the country. Volunteers at Brooklands fulfil many roles such as stewarding our buildings and displays, working on restoration and project teams, working with school and adult groups, helping with administration and site maintenance and marshalling at Museum events. There is a wide range of possible volunteering roles, some of which involve meeting visitors and others which are ‘hands-on’.

Whilst an interest in cars and aeroplanes is an advantage, it is not vital in view of the varied roles on offer.  Volunteers, through their time, energy and skills can make a valuable contribution to the overall aims of the Museum.  Equally, volunteering can bring benefits to the volunteers themselves, by improving skills and confidence and developing interests.

We are always on the lookout for new members for the team.  The most important thing about volunteering at Brooklands is enjoyment: giving time and skill to the Museum must be enjoyable for the Volunteer; that in turn should give enjoyment and education to all who visit the Museum while helping to preserve and protect the heritage and legacy of this great place. At present we are especially short of weekend and Friday stewards and ask that all volunteers commit to stewarding our exhibits and displays at least half a day per month at weekends (equivalent to 6 days per year).
