Cookie Policy

The Brooklands Museum website uses cookies (little bits of information stored on your computer) to provide us with statistical information which can be used to help improve our website experience. None of the cookies used on our website contain information that could personally identify visitors, with all statistical data based on anonymous visits.

Google Analytics

Our chosen website statistics software is Google Analytics which uses several cookies, as detailed below. It is not possible to opt-in or opt-out of Google Analytics visitor tracking.

Cookie Name Cookie Duration Description
__utma 2 years This cookie keeps track of the number of times a visitor has been to the site, when their first visit was, and when their last visit occurred.
__utmb 30 minutes Holds timestamp of the exact moment in time when a visitor first visits the site.
__utmc Session (until the browser is closed) Holds timestamp of the exact moment in time when a visitor leaves the site.

Our Website Software

Our website content management system also makes use of cookies as follows. It is possible to opt-in, or opt-out of these cookies depending on your personal preference.

Cookie Name Cookie Duration Description
exp_cookies_allowed 1 year Holds a 'yes' or 'no' value depending on whether you have consented to allowing the use of cookies on our site.
exp_last_activity 1 year Contains the date of your last activity on the site.
exp_last_visit 1 year This is only relevant to registered users and contains data relating to the dates of your visits to the site.
exp_tracker Session (until the browser is closed) Keeps track of the last 5 pages you visited on the site and allows us to redirect you to the page you were on before sending us an email through a contact form.

The cookies “exp_last_activity” and “exp_last_visit” also allow us to optionally show you which content has been updated since your last visit.

Other Cookies

Our site uses social plugins to connect with social networks Facebook, Twitter and Linked In. If you are signed in to these services, these cookies are set by the respective sites and are not the responsibility of Brooklands Museum Trust.

Managing Your Cookies

Please remember that Brooklands Museum Trust does not use cookies to collect personally identifiable information about you. These cookies are set to improve your experience on our website.

However, there are various ways that you can control and manage your cookies which are discussed in a bit more detail below. Please remember that any settings you change will not just affect Brooklands Museum Trust cookies. These changes will apply to all websites that you visit (unless you choose to block cookies from particular sites).

Managing cookies in your browser
Most modern browsers will allow you to:

  • See what cookies you’ve got and delete them on an individual basis.
  • Block third party cookies.
  • Block cookies from particular sites.
  • Block all cookies from being set.
  • Delete all cookies when you close your browser.

You should be aware that any preferences will be lost if you delete cookies. Ironically, this includes where you have opted out from cookies, as this requires an opt-out cookie to be set. Also, if you block cookies completely many websites will not work properly and some functionality on these websites will not work at all. We do not recommend turning cookies off when using our Digital Products and Services for these reasons.

If you are primarily concerned about third party cookies generated by advertisers, you can turn these off separately. This is discussed in more detail below.

The links below take you to the ‘Help’ sections for each of the major browsers so that you can find out more about how to manage your cookies.
