Touchdown at Brooklands Museum for a kerosene fuelled day of aviation antics and activities.
This promises to be a day like no other at the Museum - the emphasis is towards the skies as we dedicate the whole site to Brooklands’ rich and varied connection with all things aviation.
The Museum’s aircraft and cockpits will be open for visitors to explore, and outside the Wellington Hangar there will even be a chance to see and hear some of the early aircraft in action, as we fire up the engines of the Sopwith Camel, replica monoplanes and P & A Wood’s Le Rhone, together with the mighty 24 litre Napier-Railton. In the afternoon there will be a flying display with a Puss and Tiger Moth.
Additionally there will be trade stalls and exhibitors, including Lasham Gliding Club and Air Search UK. There will be plenty of activities for the youngsters including a workshop in the Press Hut, rides in pedal-driven model aeroplanes from the Joystick Club and flight simulators.
For this event we will be joined by veterans from Bomber Command, who will be available to sign memorabilia, prints and books, and author Steve Darlow will also be at the museum to meet his fans. The Bomber Command veterans that will be joining us on the day are: Sqdn.Ldr. Bill Lucas, Flt.Lt. ‘Jo’ Lancaster, Flt.Lt. George Dunn, F/O Bunny Mason, Flt.Lt. Hal Gardner, F/O John de Hoop, Flt.Lt. Harry Hacker, W/O Dave Fellowes and Leading Aircraftwoman Daphne Brownlie.
